Bernice and Andy Tate are South Carolina children's book authors/illustrators who have made it their life work to create meaningfuleducational entertainment for children. The Tates are best known for their behind-the-scenes work in educational television and children’s theater. Starting in the 1970’s, they've inspired kids with creative works on the small screen and in art galleries, enlightening children with their unique combination of talents. Upon retiring, the attention of this amazing couple turned to the written word. The first result of this new mission was Storybooks-4-Kids an independent social innovation publishing project, featuring themes of multiculturalism, empowerment, acceptance, anti-bullying, the power of diversity and food choice awareness for children. "Readers are leaders. The Tate's series seasons the imagination, and feeds the mind."

Marva Collins -
International Educator - Founder of the West Side Preparatory School in Garfield Park, Chicago, Illinois

                                                                                                                    How it All Began

*It all began in 1972, when Andy Tate began experimenting with short stories and dramatic play at home with his son. The one-on-one play time with his son inspired his first animated musical. Together, Andy and Bernice combined their creativity and passion to produce  The Video Storybook (TVS), a home video series for children ages two to five. “They seem to capture the world of children’s imagination, the single area in which all kids seem to connect.” Derek Mitchell Tate, M.D. – New York, NY.

*Andy also wrote several episodes of ‘Plain Folks,’ series for Children’s Television Show, Vegetable Soup, in the mid 1970’s.From 1974-1981, the Tates created a traveling educational theater using folklores and life–size puppets. Their traveling theater was called PWIFTOWN USA , an acronym for (Paper, Water, Imagination and Flour) the basic ingredients of papier-mâché. Their concept and performances gained praise in The New York Times and The New York Daily News. In 1978, The Tates received a letter of recognition from The White House.
